UPDATE - Our season and Covid-19

Thank you for your continued patience as we waited out the process for Oregon to begin reopening. Our objective is to balance risk with the desire to play the game that we all love.

Until a vaccine is broadly available, participation in anything will involve some risk. Risk is not new to our sport. Injuries happen on every team; concussions, sprains, broken bones and illness are challenges we always face.

COVID-19 creates a new kind of risk. On one hand, it is often hidden and the consequences can be very serious. On the other hand, the actual incidence of infection is relatively low in our current environment. The risk of infection can be reduced considerably through relatively simple actions (social distancing, small group practices, masks, etc.)

Our approach to balance risk with the desire to play is based on the premise that the decision to participate lies with the player (and her family) and each coach. Each player/family and coach is responsible for their own decision to participate. If a coach or player decides to no longer participate, there will be no negative consequence for the rest of the team. We will adjust as needed and make sure every player wanting to participate is given an equal chance to participate if the risk remains acceptable.

More policies will be put in place and emailed out before practices begin. Our plan is to limit the number of players practicing in a space at a time, more time between practices for teams to enter and exit, we will minimize equipment sharing, and we will take daily attendance, as well as other additional guidelines for coaches.

Based on what information we know so far, including what our neighboring softball associations are planning for and in partnership with WL parks and rec, the following "best case scenario" plan is in place:

T-ball: A mid June- mid July 5 week schedule is in place. Based on small t-ball rosters of 6-7 players, we will be able to maintain social distancing protocol for this age group in phase 1 and 2.

8U and 10U : Season begins in late June- early July for 6 weeks. Working to complete your season before soccer begins in late August to avoid overlapping.

12U: Will play the CCGSA schedule starting the 2nd week of July (2 weeks of practice) and games will be played on Friday or Sunday evenings August – September.

10U-14U tournament teams: will begin practice once Clackamas county is cleared for phase I. Your coaches will be in contact with you soon with more information.
Coaches: You will be receiving a separate email survey asking your availability and flexibility with summer time options to space out practices. Please respond to the correct email listed on that email survey.

Your Options as A Parent
1) Stay registered for the above listed schedule. No need to contact us. Wait to hear from your coach in June.
2) Ask to be removed from the roster, and donate your registration fee to WLSA (A tax donation form will be sent to you be end of the summer). We appreciate you supporting our non-profit organization during this time.
3) Request a refund. Refunds will be processed at the end of each week. Please allow 10 days for credit to show on your account, after each Friday of the week that you requested a refund.
Note: Tournament team players will not receive a full refund due to uniform, backpack and helmet purchases.
Note: If opting to no longer participate, please request a refund or notify us that you would like to donate your registration fee by June 30th. WLSA will not be allowing credits for future seasons.
